金银花是最常见的中药之一，很多成药里都要金银花的成分。金银花以清热解毒见长，夏天适当饮用金银花泡茶，可清除热邪、清利头目，预防中暑、感冒及肠道传染病。历代医家均推之为“外科圣品，治疮疡之要药”。
金银花在夏季开花，初放时洁白如银，数日后变为金黄，新旧相参，黄白相间，一金一银交相辉映，散发浓香，故又名“金银花”。
刚打苞的金银花，苞长2厘米左右，呈绿色，此时摘下晒干后，用干净棉布缝好给宝宝作枕头，是再好不过的天然药枕，对促进婴儿的脑部发育非常有好处，而且对婴儿的头形没有影响，还可以预防痱子。
即将开花的金银花苞，长约3～4厘米，饮用效果最佳，摘下晒干装袋后可长期储存，饮用时取少许用开水冲泡，味道上乘。
