当你发现生活中的事情似乎总做不完，一天24小时仍不够用的时候，别忘了蛋黄酱罐子和两罐啤酒。

上哲学课前，教授站在讲台上，面前放着一些东西。一上课，他不先讲课，而是拿出一个很大的空的蛋黄酱罐子，并往里面放高尔夫球。然后，他问学生：“罐子装满了吗？”学生都说：“满了”。

    然后，教授拿起一盒砾石投入罐子里。轻轻地一摇，砾石就滚进高尔夫球间的空隙。然后，他又问学生：“罐子装满了吗？”学生依然回答：“满了”。

    接着，教授又拿起一盒沙子倒入罐子里。当然，沙子可以填满其他所有的间隙。他又问：  “罐子装满了吗？”学生一致地回答：“满了”。

    后来，教授又从桌下拿出两罐啤酒，打开倒进罐子里，更好地填满沙子间的间隙。学生们笑了。

    等到笑声落下，教授说：“现在，我要让你们认识到这个罐子象征了你们的生活。高尔夫球代表的是重要的东西－家庭，孩子，健康，朋友和兴趣爱好。即使你失去其他所有的东西，但只要还拥有这些，你的生活仍然丰富多彩。

    砾石代表其他重要的东西（除上面提到的外），如工作，房子及汽车。

    沙子则代表其他一些次重要的东西。他接着说：”如果你先把沙子倒入罐子里，就没有空间容纳砾石和高尔夫球了。生活也如此。如果你把所有的时间和精力放在小事情上，那么你不可能做那些有重要意义的事了。

    请留意那些与你幸福相关的事情：多花时间陪孩子和父母，与祖父母聊天，做健康检查，与爱人共进晚餐，还有做其他有重要意义的事。你总会有时间来打扫房子和改变布置的。把高尔夫球放在首位，也就是把真正重要的事情放在首位。确定了重要的事情，其余的就是“沙子”。

    这时，一个学生举手问道：“老师，那啤酒代表什么呢？”

    教授笑着回答：“我很高兴听到你提问这个问题。啤酒是告诉你，不管你的生活看起来多么丰富多彩，它仍有容纳朋友的空间。”


                  When things in your life seem
                    almost too much to handle,
                 when 24 hours in a day are not
                       enough, remember the
                mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses
                            of wine...

           A professor stood before his
                     philosophy class and had
                some items in front of him. When
                         the class began,
                wordlessly, he picked up a very
                         large and empty
                 mayonnaise jar and proceeded to
                     fill it with golf balls.

                He then asked the students if the
                        jar was full. They
                       agreed that it was.

               The professor then picked up a box
                      of pebbles and poured
               them into the jar. He shook the jar
                lightly. The pebbles rolled into
              the open areas between the golf balls.
              He then asked the students again if
                        the jar was full.

               They agreed it was.

          The professor next picked up a box
                      of sand and poured it
                          into the jar.

                  Of course, the sand filled up
                     everything else He asked
                 once more if the jar was full.

           The students responded with a
                         unanimous 'yes.'

         The professor then produced two
                       glasses of wine from
                 under the table and poured the
                     entire contents into the
               jar, effectively filling the empty
                        space between the
                   sand. The students laughed.

         'Now,' said the professor, as the
                      laughter subsided, 'I
               want you to recognize that this jar
                      represents your life.
                The golf balls are the important
                       things; your family,
                your children, your health, your
                        friends, and your
                favorite passions; things that if
                      everything else was
                lost and only they remained, your
                       life would still be full.

                The pebbles are the other things
                      that matter like your
              job, your house, and your car. The
                        sand is everything
                    else; the small stuff.

            If you put the sand into the jar first,
                          he continued,
               there is no room for the pebbles or
                         the golf balls.

                 The same goes for life: If you
                     spend all your time and
                   energy on the small Stuff.

              Pay attention to the things that are
                         critical to your
                           happiness.

               Play with your children. Take time
                          to get medical
              checkups. Take your partner out to
                       dinner. Play another
               18 holes. There will always be time
                        to clean the house
               and fix the disposal. Take care of
                      the golf balls first;
               the Things that really matter. Set
                       your priorities. The
                       rest is just sand.'

          One of the students raised her
                    hand and inquired what the
                        wine represented.

       The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you
                       asked. It just goes
              to show you that no matter how full
                       your life may seem,
              there's always room for a couple of
                       glasses of wine with
                           a friend.'
